IDSF World Youth Standard Championship 2009

Congratulations to 2009 Champions in Youth Standard Igor Kruglov and Olga Shcherbina.

Wonderfull dancing, a really good competition. But only one couple can be the champion at a time. Special thanks to the audience, the support given to all the couples was marvelous and made the event if possible even more intense.

All photos are now ready and available:

Tallinn International Open 2009

Tallinn International Open 2009 took place in the superb Saku Suurhal during the last weekend in November.

The venue is just perfect for this kind of an event. No wonder the audience could again enjoy some magificient dancing.
The athmosphere during the competition, specially in the evening, is absolutely wonderful... great dancers, live band and one of the very best lights I've seen anywhere.

My warmest thanks first of all to all dancers but also to the organizer, Mrs Merle Klandorf and her team.

This is now the second post in the new blog, the very first to present an event and photograps. This is though only first in a row of the steps needed to create a new version of  Dance-Corner.net. Another one is a new microblog on Twitter, you can follow it to see easier what is going on in Dance-Corner, try it, it's for free :-) But please do not expect daily tweets...

The gallery is still under some reconstructioning, in the mean time I'll make some photos available on another server. I'm still working hard to enhance the photograps, at this very early stage some clues to where I'm going can be seen ;-)

New Dance-Corner

This is the beginning of the Fourth Generation Dance-Corner.

The first version was based on a html-gallery. It offered some nice features for the user, on the other hand it was very heavy to maintain. There was no real way to publish anything else than photos and the quality was not what I wanted.

After trying out different ways of publishing the photos in a better way, with better quality and easier maintaining the second generation of Dance-Corner was based on a flash gallery. Photos looked much better andwas much better in many ways. I wanted to publish some articles of the techniques I used in my photography to help others, the flash gallery itself did not support this. The gallery was also on a server that was shared between several customers/sites and the performance was less than satisfying.

The Third Generation was based on a completely new technology. The main site was created using a Content Managent System that really helped me to produce the content I wanted. The photographs where in a new version of the flas gallery that supported a hierarchical structure to organise them. The site was also hosted on a new platform, instead of a shared environment several dedicated servers to provide the performance needed, the application, database and storagelayers where all separated from eachother to support the amount of visitors. The photographs where viewed some 6 to 8 million times a year. Also an online shop was published on sales.Dance-Corner.net to provide the possibility to purchase photos as files or prints.

So what will be the news on This 4th G version of Dance-Corner? Several items... First of all this blog. Folloving it you will f.ex. know when new photos are ready. I'm also looking into Twitter to be able as new new channel between you and me. The gallery will propably be the same as it used to be, some smaller enhancements will be seen though.

The big change will be in the photograps themself. I'm really looking in the complete photography process, including f.ex.
  • profiling the camera,
  • correct and optimal exposure while capture of the photograp and
  • optimal raw processing.
All will (hopefully) end in a new level of quality in the photos.

It is not ready yet, a lot of work has to be done in the background before showtime. In the meantime please enjoy the old photos of Dance-Corner.net, they can be found here.

On the side of the old photos also some new ones will be published as I test new methods in my photography. Not only photograps of Dance, but many other types also :-)
